Safety Reminders
Just a few short safety reminders from the Safety Committee.
1. Open toed shoes are not allowed on the production floor.
2. If you see a spill of water or pellets clean it up immediately so no one slips.
3. Never leave a forklift or crane if it has something in the air.
4. Always steer clear of the forklift and pallet wrapper when they are in use and never assume the operator see you.

Packing Slip copies are now on server
Packing Slip copies can now be found in the New Structure section on the Company Server. This will be a great help if you need to see or print a copy for any reason as we've never stored them electronically before.
The exact location is:
Server2\company\New Structure\Operations\Shipping\Packing Slips - scanned copies
I just started scanning these in yesterday, so I'm working backwards from most current to oldest. Each Packing Slip file is named with it's corresponding Packing Slip number and the date. I did not include the customer name in the file as you will likely be searching for a particular number after finding the shipment in either JEMS or on the Packing Slip Log.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

Electronic Open Order Logs
In an effort to reduce the cost of printing the Open Order Logs each week they are now available electronically. If you would like the Icons for each log loaded on you desktop let Sarah know and she will load them. This new feature will save us $300 per month and makes searching the documents for specific Job #'s very easy.

Check out the new link
Want to learn how to use a PI Tape to measure diameters. Click on the Pi Tape link on the right and watch the instructional video. Pi Tapes can convert the circumference of a circle to a diameter. We use this to measure the PRTA 24" rings to make sure that the parts will fit correctly to the mating riser.

Check Out These Cool Videos
Click here to view a video of a product similar to one that one of our customers manufactures. If that wasn't interesting enough here is another one that is more in the line of education click here. We manufacture a piece for the stylus that the teacher is using in the video.
MISSION ACOMPLISHED
Well after several attempts to improve the Timbercon Boot mold to prevent the sprue from sticking it looks like we have done it! Thanks to everyone that helped with input and to those that ran the job while it was being a pain. Hopefully we wont have anyone running around with sore fingers anymore and hopefully I don't end up looking like George Bush.

List of R&D Paid Holidays Posted
I have posted a list of all 2009 Paid Holidays for R&D's qualified employees on the right hand side of the blog. This is the best estimate of dates at this time. Dates are subject to change depending on R&D's work schedule around that particular holiday.
Also, one of R&D's Paid Holidays for eligible employees each year is the Employee's Birthday. This holiday should be taken within 30 days of your actual birthday. Please schedule your time off with your supervisor so they can plan for your time off.
If you have any questions, please see Kandi or Charlie.

Work Schedule - Update
Good News! We received some move-ins and a rush order from a few customers that make our machine schedule very tight for the next two weeks. Although the orders are not substantial enough to go back to a full schedule, we do have the need for more machine hours. We will offer to allow full-time employees to fill their lost hours as machine operators. Please let Tino know if you are interested and we will work out an individual schedule. Training will be available – no experience necessary.
Again, we will review the work schedule each week as we get better visibility from our customers.

Great Initiative Jeff
Thank you to Jeff Geiger for taking the initiative to set up the robot with the "universal" fixture for the GE Securities Coverplate job. This allowed us to run the job fully auto with less than half of an operator to trim, inspect and package the parts. Steps like this directly impact the Labor Efficiency numbers in a positive way and help make us a more successful company. Good job Jeff!
R&D Welcomes Two New Employees
We are pleased to announce that Megan Gemma and Maria Vera are the newest additions to the R&D Plastics team. Megan is an operator on graveyard shift and Maria is on swing shift. Both have worked at R&D through Sedona for a while but now are official R&D team members.
